around jasailmer
india Next we took an overnight camel safari through a desert near Jasailmer. It was interesting getting on and off the camels. They all had personalities of their own. After a while of riding, we all took a break. The camels all drank from this well that was not really a well. There's a big truck from town that comes and pours water in it for the nearby villages. There were sheep and even a donkey with a water bag strapped on him (so he can bring it home). The rest of us (foreigners) didn't join the part-tay ... we drank from our bottled water. Then we came across a small village which had walls built with cow dung. They seemed pretty proud about it too. We trekked on and on until late afternoon when we unpacked the camels and set up camp. The camels gathered to eat dinner and so did we under the disappearing sun. We had chapattis and dhal. The next morning, we woke up bright and early. We slept well. The desert air was cool and calm. We rode on until the afternoon when we met up with our guide who picked us up in a jeep and brought us back to Jasailmer. We were a little sore from galloping through the desert during the last leg of our trek, but this was definitely the highlight of our time in India. |
