chiang mai A Hmong man with his rooster, walking to town. We rented a motorcycle to ride up into the hills near Chiang Mai to see Hmong villages ourselves. We saw a couple of fairly empty villages. We saw some older women and little children. The men and younger villagers must have been out working during the day... We recommend a dirt bike for this trip as there were mostly unpaved, windy roads. And of course, we didn't go on a dirt bike which made an interesting adventure. Shopping at the market for our cooking course in Chiang Mai. We saw fresh tumeric, fried worms (above), a lot of dried chilies, everything you need for Thai cooking. Just couldn't resist buying a bag of fried bugs. This bag of goodies had beetle, crickets, worms, and some other big winged insects we've never seen before. We learned how to make Pad Thai, Tom Yum Shrimp, Laap (a spicy minced meat dish), and a curry -- all from scratch! Susana & Brian at Thai Massage course. In Chang Mai, we took a Thai Massage course, graduated, and are now certified! This is the ceremony. sukothai One of the many ruins in Sukothai, an ancient city in Thailand. |
