After all those days in touristy places, we opted to spend a few days in Bundi, a small town in Rajasthan. From our rooftop, we have a perfect view of the town's palace, where its maharaja used to live. He lives in another big place in town, and the old Bundi Palace is now converted into a museum like all the other palaces we've seen in northern India. The Palace is the brownish, beige sandstone castle in the top half of the picture. The lower buildings are nearby hotels and homes. Pig walking past motorcycle in a blue alley, Bundi. The city is painted mostly blue. Locals told us that blue paint is inexpensive, not because the town is mostly made of Brahmins (religious caste in which blue represents). Holy cow! Men making pots by hand near the shops that sell them; women and children watching. Marriage procession passing by. Susana walking down the fort wall of Bundi Palace. Different views from Bundi Palace. Monkey enjoying the view from Bundi Palace. From our hotel's rooftop at the crack of dawn. Taking pictures at the market while a pig runs off with a tomato at the market. View of Bundi Palace at dusk. There are many rooms in Bundi Palace. The one on the left is where the maharaja (local ruler) stored his booze. On the right is where people danced and entertained him. Below is a room has become a bat cave. There are a lot of stray bats here since the palace is basically abandoned and hasn't been kept up. |
