Our first stop in The
Netherlands, the small farming village of Afferden.
Flat with livestock and a windmill. Can't get anymore Dutch.
Because it was so late in the
season we had a whole campsite to ourselves.
A farmer had converted his backyard into camping area. Clean,
cheap and peaceful.
And they really do put straw on
their roofs.
hoge veluwe national park
From Afferden we drove a few
miles (everything is only a few miles away in The Netherlands) to the
hoge veluwe national park.
It's the largest in the country and would fit in the backyard of any
suburban American home. Seriously, it's tiny.
The main attraction is a modern art museum that's in the middle of the
park.
Outside is a maze of neeto stuff. A playground for the art lovers.
All
sorts of strange structures that reach up into the sky.
Or stairway that go nowhere!
The park is so small that you ride a bike through it rather than take a
car.
The dutch love their bikes, and so does Susana apparently.
